My Story

I arrived from Brazil in 2007 to make London my new home. I found a job in a restaurant which I realised very quickly was not right for me.

In the restaurant I found myself working alongside others who were studying for courses towards their dream job. I was in a new city, a very exciting city surrounded by opportunities and people working towards their goals.

Inspired by this I set about working out what my dream job would be, what I would like to wake up and do every morning with a big smile on my face.

My background is in Psychology and Nutrition, but neither of these felt right as a career.

I am creative, I like using my hands, and of course, I love of animals. If I could combine all of those with a job that was flexible I knew that would be perfect.

Browsing YouTube one evening I came upon some videos of dog grooming technique, and I was hooked! By the next week I had found a nearby dog grooming school, paid for my course and handed in my notice at work.

I was nervous, but also super excited as all of this felt so right.

The course was brilliant, I progressed really quickly and soon after left with my City & Guilds qualification.

I was very lucky to get a job with Battersea dogs and cats home. This was a great place for a new groomer to get some real hands on experience with the multitude of breeds coming through the doors.

Working for Battersea Dogs Home also made me a stronger and better human being.

Spending some time with a dog grooming colleague in her mobile pet grooming van in South London made me realise that this would definitely be the next step for me.

I loved the freedom and flexibility that it gave her and so I decided to go ahead and get my driving license.

Sooner after I got my license, I found a dog grooming van for rent and again, everything fell into place. Two days later I had a big white van in front of my flat!

Groom Groom is my baby, it’s going from strength to strength and personally I wake up with that big smile on my face looking forward to seeing my clients, both human and animal.

Life in my dog grooming van is like one big adventure, in fact one day I might write a book of all my stories.

My one piece of advice: follow your dreams!

Do what you love and you will never work a day in life.
